Discount Airline Fares
It may surprise
many travelers to discover that a search on their favorite
airline's website, might bring about a better bargain (and
frequent flyer miles) than buying from a discount travel website.
Most major airlines
offer "internet only" specials or specials on tickets
purchased between certain venues. Many times they are at rates
substantially lower than regular advertised prices found on
"discount" websites.
Southwest, Delta
and others have a special fare section where you can check their
discounts and compare it to your travel plans. Even
international airlines have great deals, you just have to be
prepared to spend some time doing research on the internet.
Granted, your chances of finding a great deal are better if you
live in a major city or near a popular airport hub, but those in
smaller cities need not despair. Deals can be found all
around the country, in big or small cities.
Even though
incredibly low fares are out there, the "to/from" cities
may not be compatible with your travel plans - so search, be
flexible and have fun! |

Student
Travel Savvy
There are many great
travel packages geared toward students traveling through Europe and
other parts of the world. While it's easy to see only the dollar
signs (the expense), it's important to have a credible travel agent
and/or package with a well-known tour group.
Of course flying isn't
the only way to travel. Many countries have great public
transportation - trains, buses, subways to help you along the way once
you get there. It's been known for years, that back-packing
through Europe and going by Eurorail is almost synonymous! In
Asia, a bike journey is something to be experienced and is almost
guaranteed to be an unforgettable adventure.

For the
"English" only speakers, many places have directions in your
language to guide you. But don't assume, especially in a country where
English is not the native language, that everyone speaks your language.
Even if the locals attempt to speak English or speak some very well,
don't assume they are fluent. Speaking with clear enunciation is
important as is speaking in a normal manner (well, a little slower if
you talk fast!). You will probably be understood moreOh, by the
way, yelling or saying something r-e-a-l-l-y s-l-o-w-l-y, doesn't help
in the language barrier. It just makes you look like a mad person
with a volume control and enunciation problem.
